First Call’s Annual Community Gratitude Luncheon celebrates those who work tirelessly to reduce the stigma often associated with substance use disorders by recognizing champions who have developed evidence-based treatment strategies, volunteered their time, donated their dollars, and advocated for public policy change. This year’s event, scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, 2014, will feature a keynote presentation by Willie Wilson.
Wilson is a two-time American League All Star and a member of the 1985 World Series winning Kansas City Royals team. Wilson was elected into the Royals Hall of Fame in 2000 and is the author of the recently released book, Inside the Park: Running the Base Path of Life (Ascend Book 2013) about his life and recovery from cocaine addiction. He now leads the Willie Wilson Baseball Foundation which provides support to underserved inner-city youth in Kansas City.
