Risk Management - assesses and reviews First Call’s risk assessment and risk management policies for both programs and operations. Meets quarterly.
Speakers Bureau: The First Call Speaker's Bureau is a volunteer group of staff and community members that represent First Call throughout the Kansas City metro area at health fairs, corporate events, speaking engagements, and community events. The goal of the Bureau is to increase community awareness and education about addiction and the services that First Call provides. Speakers Bureau volunteers receive in-depth training on First Call services as well as the latest education on mental health and substance use disorder.
Emerging Professionals Board: The Emerging Professionals Board engages the community in the mission of First Call through events and programming geared toward younger professionals in the KC metro area. The EPB meets virtually monthly and is governed by its own executive committee. Additionally, EPB members serve on First Call committees, attend First Call events, and attend quarterly First Call Governing Board meetings. Application to the EPB is open year-round.
First Call’s values of person-centered service, community, collaboration, and kindness are foundational for the agency’s focus on accessibility, commitment to data-driven practice, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as we work toward our mission of reducing the impact of alcohol, drugs, and addiction by providing quality resources to individuals, families, and the community.
Commitment to Diversity
First Call recognizes that systemic racism, discrimination, and stigma have impacted accessibility of harm reduction tools, prevention efforts, and treatment of substance use disorders for individuals, families, and communities we serve. First Call affirms its ongoing responsibility to build strategic initiatives and foster environments in which all people are respected, included, and afforded equitable outcomes.

After training is complete, you’ll be able to sign up to help First Call at events throughout the year where a First Call representative is needed. These events include things like health fairs, community festivals and activities, or civic presentations.
First Call has several volunteer committees, ranging from event, marketing, building, etc. Committees usually meet via zoom or in person every other month.
